More Kitesurfing from earlier
in the 2001 season. |

This page is intended to be a chronicle of the events and misadventures of Team Coyote (and friends) and the quest to conquer the ups and downs of the sport of kitesurfing.
|

It all started innocently enough...a warm summer day on a grassy launch on the North Shore of Maui...not quite enough wind to sail the small stuff yet...so, as we all lounged about, beverages in hand, waiting for more wind, we saw a purple speck upwind on the horizon. In a matter of moments the speck from Sprecks turned into a close-up view of a kite, about 100 feet of line and a surfer attached. This guy was ripping jybes and getting 20 feet of air for huge distances and few if any whitecaps could be seen inside. Holy Crap, Batman...now THAT looks like a blast! |

 |
| Halloween 2001, 4:15 P.M...Steve had a camera ready when Doug decided to stack 1120 and 840 ARCs for a late afternoon (almost dark) session. The video is a bit dark and grainy, but what the heck, have you seen stacked kites at 3rd lately? |
 |
| JR and Lynda share some photos from their latest Maui trip...check it out. |
 |
| Nothing fancy and no big tricks...just a little warm wind fun with the locals. This one's 7.1 MB and as always requires the QT plugin (4.1.2 or higher) |
 |
| The season's winding down...but the show must go on. Check out some photos by special guest contributor, Michael Victor. Click here for his incisive survey of a veritable Bay Area kitguy icon. |
 |
| Back to the normal nonsense...Pat has his very own "How to Land Gracefully" video. He'll be selling it on late nite cable T.V. The good news is that if you order right now he'll throw in a set of Ginsu knives and a Veg-o-Matic at no additional charge. |
 |
| SNix...one hand on the wheel... |
 |

September something or other...Serge provided a small (682K) video for your entertainment. He ended up with 4 stitches for his efforts.
 |
Aug 22...We've all heard the phrase "mad dogs and Englishmen"...but I'd have to say that this crazy Italian defies all logic and common sense. Ponteleo provides entertainment both on and off the water. Click here to see a movie of his latest adventure. "Goin' Upwind Italian Style"
It's a BIG file (9MB) so don't bother unless you have a broad pipe! |

August 14...after a perfect day sailing Coyote I wandered down to 3rd to check out the action...seems Steve's been spinnin' lately. I know the old guy can get it up but I didn't know he could get it around too!

|
| Steve's puttin' the young folk to shame...but not by much! This is Mike V. midst a spin of his own. |
 |
| Pat M...showing his best side to Kevin D. |

July 27...the best "egroups" post I've seen so far..
"Hi kitesurfers
I saw a guy doing kitesurfing at the gorge last year and it look lie fun since I am a windsurfer, snowboarder and able to get up on a wake board . so I told myself it shoudn,t be too hard. last winter I bought myself two kites both Wipika freeair 2000 model a 5.0 and a 8.5 and also 2 boards a naish 7.0 and a picklefork 161 and a reelbar and a training kite
I flow my trainer with the reel bar the frist day and I can feel the power it come from the kite and I know I got hook . After watch the Video how to rip I pump up the 5.0 self launch and bodydrag it is fun in 15 knot of wind I did 5 to 6 times body drag and converted the kite into 4 lines
so I went with my naish 7.0 board and a 5.0 kite (I weight 130) it is about 15 knot get the kite up at the neutral zone try to hook into my harness as soon as i hook in to my harness i lost total control of my kite my body will twist and face the other way and the kite crash so what wrong seatharness? so I use waistharness it is better but I still have a hell of hard time while I am hook in the harness and position the board in front of me everytime i do that the kite will not listen to me
so far I dislocated my index finger bruise my chest so i try on my wakeboard 2 days ago since the binding attach to my feet so i don,t have to reach for the board it may be easier am i wrong it was about 17 knot gust to 22 so i use my 5.0 did the power dive got up on my wakeboard for only 3 second caught the front edge slam hard on the water kite is pulling and the wakeboard act like an sea anchor so both my feet come off from the bindings what a nightmare and i try to put the board back to my feet not a chance I got so mad
I got so mad that i just want to burn the kite chop the board up . Did you people go thought that is it my kite or it just me it is the learning curve i have to go thought
I am thinking get a air blast 6.3 seem better kite i saw
people on the airblast 8.4 they do very well on a wake board

WOOOW I FEEL BETTER NOW CAN,T WAIT TO KITE AGAIN THANK"
(Just when you think you have seen it all, someone comes along to demonstrate a new way to be stupid!)
...BURN yer freakin' kite mon!

July 22, 3rd Ave...seems to be some tension growing (in addition to the stinky sea weed) on the lower beach lately. A lot of kites, lines and tangles mixed in with the occasional bad attitude and lack of common courtesy make for a really crowded and potentially dangerous space.
Take it easy kids...everybody wants to have fun. If you don't know what you're doing, ask for help from someone who does! Oh yeah, one more thing...NO ANGRY YELLING! (yer basic hootin' an' hollerin' is still o.k.!) Now go out and play.
...end of editorial |
June 23... King of the Bay contest. It's a BIG file (11MB) so don't bother if you lack the modem or processor speed!
