July 4th '05, Coyote Point...in the interest of science, I decided to strap on the 'Helmet Cam' and do a little Bay stalking. Reports were that the wind was up outside and it was clear that SNix was going to launch a kite. Unfortunately, being camera shy, he was dead-set on staying inside where there was barely a whitecap.
Lots of things to do to improve this toy...I mean, tool...
bad video with equally bad music here... (13.4 MB Quicktime)

for those of you still sitting on the fence about taking kiting lessons...after much time observing the different local school approaches to lessons on the Bay, Team Coyote recommends the jetski assisted programs from WOW at Coyote and KiteWindSurf at Alameda. After watching land-based lessons at Coyote for 2 seasons it seems that most of the student's time is spent walking back upwind and relatively little time in the water. Land-based lessons, particularly at Coyote, are limited by inside wind strength, often flukey direction and obstacles in and out of the Bay (think large pilings and power lines.) Jetski assisted lessons bring the student to the wind no matter what the direction and keep the student away from those dangerous obstacles.
If you're looking for the most bang for you kite-lesson buck think .

June 19...rumor has it that...Master Po (of "Kung Fu Kiting" fame) has been seen taking lessons from Paul at Coyote. Watch out kids!

| Saturday, May 15...KiteWindSurf and North sponsored a downwinder from Crissy Field to Pt. Emery. Crissy greeted the bus full of kiters with winds around 22 building to 28+ at TI. Most of the guys were on 12s and one of the girls used a 7.5. The bus again greeted the 50+ kiters at Pt. Emery where there was barely enough wind to make it to the beach. | Kitexpo, Pismo Beach...Lot's of equipment, not so much wind. (some pics here) As a result, the highlight of the 3 day event was the land boarders and the buggy guys...and oh ya, a pro am surf contest at the pier. Friday was the best for wind...started out gloomy and misting but by early afternoon 16-20s were the call, and later in the day 12s and 14s. Saturday started off sunny and warm and ended in light rain. The traditional bonfire with food, drink etc. went on as scheduled. Nice job Kinsley! Caution crew was in full force with their monster F-350s and their sand golf tourney on Sunday. |

April 18th...holy schmoly it was windy...

 |
| April 16th, 3rd. Ave...the place was sold out and the only left-over parking was down by the water tanks. A few late afternoon shots here. |
