In an effort to bring some kind of organization to the chaos of these pages, I've created an index for easy access to most of the photos on this site. The photo gallery can be found here.

November 8th at 3rd. was like a Spring clearing wind day. Probably had a lot to do with yesterday's election results and today's Rumsfeld resignation. A breath of fresh air for everyone!

SFBA End of Season Party - October 14

Join us on October 14th at the St. Francis Yacht Club for a killer end of season party. We will be celebrating the 20th Anniversay of the San Francisco Boardsailing Association and racers will present the Cabrinha Kite & Windsurf Awards. The party runs from 7 pm to midnight with FREE admission, live music, and refreshments (come early). The music will be retroactive rock and roll by Seventh Son. We hope you will take this opportunity to renew your SFBA membership or join up if you've never been a member.
October 6th, Coyote Pt....It's Fleet Week in San Francisco and the Blue Angels (pics here) are in town. The weather at SFO was very foggy and overcast and I wasn't sure they would take off on schedule, but I guess these guys fly in all kinds of conditions. Although I was only able to catch their take off and return, it's still exciting to witness. Blue Angels
October 5...Fellow helmet-cammer and Coyote sailor Sergey writes:

"The season's end not looking very nice, one starts thinking about winter.

As my favorite parking lot by "old Inktomi" building has recently posted no-skateboarding signs, I wonder if you could put a question on your pages if any of us Coyote sailors knows more good, windy parking lots around Peninsula to sail during winter?"

Well, there you go Sergey...anyone care to share your secret spots?

July 15, Coyote Point...André Volant spent more hours than planned Saturday while windsurfing at Coyote. At 5:30 PM, about 25 minutes after launching, he found himself adrift in the bay with no wind. Unable to uphaul his sinker in the still heavy chop he began swimming and continued his efforts for several hours before the Coast Guard, alerted by Coyote rangers and the local Coast Guard Auxiliary, found him alive and well near Candlestick shortly after midnight. While he was airlifted away his equipment was recovered by CG watercraft and delivered to the Treasure Island Coast Guard station.

I asked André about the basket ride and he said he got a good amount of spin on the way up to the helicopter. He said he rotated so much he thought he might crash into the landing gear.

On Sunday André picked up his gear (the only lost item was his Fibersnap mast base) and returned to the scene of the crime for his next adventure.

Jay Runge...

Remembering Jay

The folks at 3rd Ave intend to memorialize Jay in some manner - possibly with a bench that is dedicated to him, a rescue craft, and/or other ideas that have been proposed.
The SFBA has provided a PayPal link that allows us to donate to this memorial.
If you choose to contribute to Jay's memorial, it will be appreciated.

The family also asks that contributions in Runge's honor be sent to
the Homeless Cat Network .

To read many of the moving tributes to Jay, join the Yahoo 3rdAve group."

June 21...Sadly, 3rd Ave.'s windsurfing and kiting community has lost one of our own. Today our hearts are heavy. Words from Cimeron Morrissey;

"I'm so sad that Jay passed away. It's just so surreal - I don't want it to be true. Today has been an incredibly tough day for all of us. But at least we have the relief that comes with having found his body.

I want to say a special thanks to Chris Moore for spearheading the effort to find Jay. Chris has been truly amazing and handled this with incredible professionalism and determination. He went to Jay's house and talked with neighbors, filed the missing person's report, worked with police, Coast Guard, Fire Departments, and Sheriffs, and took the initiative to conduct a search of the bay using Helm's Jetski (thanks for letting us use it, Gary). If it weren't for Chris, Jay would likely have never been found since there weren't any agencies able to conduct the search throughout the bay. Chris also took it upon himself to inform Paul, Jay's brother, of what transpired today, which had to have been tough for both men. Chris -words can't describe how thankful we all are for you and your efforts. We are so lucky to have a friend like you.
Also, special thanks to the Menlo Park Fire Department for handling the recovery effort. After we found Jay, one agency asked us to recover Jay's body ourselves (you can imagine our reaction - you should have seen the look on Chris' face). The Menlo Park Fire Department came to the rescue by launching an air boat and support boat. There were 11 people out there to help recover Jay, and all were very kind and shared our sorrow. If you can, please send them a thank you note for their efforts - they were wonderful and deserve our thanks.

Even though I saw Jay myself and know it was him, I'm still finding
it hard to believe he's gone.

You will be missed, Jay.

Cimeron"

Olivier Corvez sez...Keep this video somewhere for those windless days (or stuck indoors at the office). For those of you who guessed : the 80's sail/ board is sailed by Andre (and Andre "manufactured" the casing for his camcorder). I have more of these with a nice jazz music behind. Enjoy ! I know I did :) Regards,
Olivier
