What's love got to do with it?...after 12 years of TeamCoyote online, I'll admit I've lost the mojo, the drive and the enthusiasm to continue this site.

I love the sports of windsurfing and kiteboarding and hope to participate in at least one and promote both in whatever way I can for many years to come.

Although posts may be less frequent, I hope to stay on top of urgent issues of safety and access at both Coyote and 3rd Ave. If there's something to bitch about...well of course...I'm that bitch!

In my formative years the first live concert I ever attended was an Ike and Tina Turner Revue.

Ike was always a shit, but Tina stood above. I can't say it better than she.

Thanks to all of you for your support thru the years!

Who ya gonna call?
Well, whoever you thought, fuggedaboutit unless it's SNix 911.

Today Scott Nix was again an ass-saver extraordinaire at Coyote Pt.
While most of us revelled in the good ebb-tide conditions, SNix, the lone kiter at Coyote, noticed a windsurfer in distress and took it upon himself to come to his aid and eventually request a call for Coast Guard assistance for Lars who suffered a separated shoulder just outside of the swim area.

After about 45 minutes of attempts to tow Lars in the Coasties arrived on the scene and ferried Lars and his board to the Coyote Pt. Marina.

SNix, not satisfied that the Coasties left Lar's rig to sink in the Bay mud, decided to save the poor boy at least $1000. and towed the sinking rig to the "last chance beach" before the Coyote Pt. Marina mouth.

With the help of Mrs. Nix, who drove down to the marina to help retrieve the rig over the rip-rap levee, Lars' rig was returned intact to Boardsporstsschool for safe keeping until its owner could collect it.
Cheers to team 911 (the Nixs) and best wishes and a hope for swift recovery to Lars!

July 28th...3rd Ave...Ramsey led the effort to build a small slider at 3rd with help from Adam and Evan with plenty of gratuitous advice from the peanut gallery. The launch was yesterday, with Ramsey, Frank, Evan, Vince, and Jon giving it a go.
And of course, a small peanut gallery was on hand to witness, cheer and ridicule.

US Nationals, day 3 Pics here

GREAT Day! Wind built from 15-20, to 22-30…and the air temp was warm; shorts and Ts, and you should have seen some of the joggers and sun goddesses. Got 7 races off, so two complete rounds have been competed. Every racer has raced six races racing everyone else 3 times and those in their fleet six times. They have one “throw out” race.

Damien LeRoy and Sky Solbach (both in the same fleet) continued their back and forth battle for the top stop. Damien never doing worse than 2nd and Sky never worse than 3rd and each with 3 wins. Going into the Gold fleet championship rounds Damien and Sky each have 7 pts.

There were several protest that were still pending so the following results are still preliminary.

Top men:
LeRoy 7 pts…3 firsts (Cabrinha)
Solbach 7…3 firsts (North)
Richman 9…3 firsts (WainmanHawaii)
Farley 12…2 firsts (North)
Chavez 12 (Naish)
Marinkovic (Cabrinha)
Modica 20 (Cabrinha)
Stolzlechner 21 (Cabrinha)
Kafka 23 (Cabrinha)
Van Malsen 23 (North)
The remaining first place went to Gebhart (Cabrinha) who sits 12th
Top Women:
Hempel 33 pts (Cabrinha) (who had 1 protest and a scoring inquiry which she won both so her total pts is a guesstimate
Boese 47 (Best)
Gil 51 (Cabrinha)
Parker (North)
Due to some drop outs, the field is now about 40 riders so the “qualifiers” have been completed and the Final championship round will begin on Thursday. All 40 racers will compete in the Gold fleet racing head to head with everyone else.

Steve took this video about a month ago. Quality lacking...needs to make adjustments to the camera, but action is tops. Windsurfers were on 3.7s and 4.0s while kiters on 7s...way powered.

Will kiteboarding be shut down at Coyote Pt.? Bad Kite Karma at Coyote

Sunday April 27th was Opening Day on the Bay...It was a warm, breezy and crowded afternoon at Coyote Pt. with swimmers and beachgoers lining every inch of available "sand."
The new sandbag ramp is a hit with everyone and it attracted an overflow crowd of people just trying to get close to the water.

Unfortunately someone from the concession area (see Jane's clarification below) decided to launch a beginner kiter and have him drag thru the swimming area while the instructor followed carring the student's board. A third kiter, after being warned by the ranger to stay out of the swimming area, launched from the same spot and proceeded to short tack upwind flying his kite just a few feet over a crowd of about 20 people who were standing at the sandbag ramp. After a few minutes the third kiter returned to the beach and attempted to land his kite over people wading in the water. Fortunately local kiter SNix (who had just done a safe water landing upwind and away from the swim area) went to his aid and directed the landing away from the waders.

Bad Kite Karma at Coyote

It's obvious that the kiters launching from the concession area showed no regard for the safety of other park users and no regard for the posted rules of the Park. If kiting is banned at Coyote it will be because they refuse to follow the posted rules, standard safety practices and local kite etiquette that has until now been observed by other kiters at Coyote Pt.

Jane sent this email:
"Those were not our students. Not sure where you are getting your facts.
We don’t teach water lessons at coyote beach. It’s not safe for beginners. Also, kiting and windsurfing is banned from the swim area...and we tell all our windsurf renters and students that.

Please don’t make accusations without asking questions.
Jane"

I replied:
"If the lesson wasn't from your school than I'll retract that portion of the post. It was very obvious that one kiter was instructing another and they rigged and launched from the beach in front of the concession going directly through the swim area.
Minutes later I personally saw the third kiter (blue kite) as he came from the concession buildings with the guy who helped launch his kite. That assistant returned to the concession building shortly thereafter. Approximately 30 minutes after that, a male windsurfer coming from the concession building proceeded to use the swimming area as if it were a sailing zone, not just attempting to get to the wind line, but sailing exclusively in the swim area. He was on a Hot Sail (blue and white), couldn't tell you what kind of board, couldn't tell you if he was an employee or a renter but I can tell you he came directly from the concession building and was not a floundering beginner.
From all appearances, someone's not getting the message about no kiting or windsurfing in the swimming area and the people who are doing it seem to be centered at the concession. This is firsthand observation.

A local Cabrinha rider whose normal spots are Waddell and Rio, just started a new job in Mtn View so we should be seeing quite a bit of him.
